1) Words
------------------------------------------------------
Words be nimble, words be quick
Words can help me heal the sick
Words to love, and words to hate
Words are all I have when its late
Words I cannot eat, not even hold
Words from lovers do get old
A word I need from another so true
A word from another is what made me blue
So if my words be nimble and quick
I think its time I found the trick
to leap this life into another
to find my love from my brothers

I'm getting old quick, the big twenty six
Trials ahead have filled my head
A women I seek, but this world I retreat
As the now gets longer, my heart grows fonder
On the one who is away, who I could not sway
Its time to leave that heart.... and be on my way.
- James Smeaton (Sept 9th, 2005)

2) A Cut To Care
------------------------------------------------------
A rapid pace for a global place
A sense of truth brings distaste
A set of eyes pass me by
But do not collide with the soul inside
So on today, I changed my way
An action taken, a difference making
A cut to care, a heart to wear
Not on a sleeve but in a face
today my actions shine of grace
- James Smeaton (Sept 13th, 2005)

3) Fair Hair Care
------------------------------------------------------
Bumbling along to a different song
Watching my hair grow a little too long
I guess some might stare to find our what’s wrong
…..Pause…..
But they just don’t get that I got my walk
And my talk , from a song inside
That I find hard to hide
As it creeps from inside out,
I try not to shout
But find the clout to remove my doubt
And let my hair that I do wear
Find out who really cares.
- James Smeaton (Sept 15th, 2005)

4)
Hmm, Sounds Like A Warning
-------------------------------------------------------
Break it down, build it up.
Ears will see who's tough
Break it down, build it up..
Karma testing my luck
Break it down, build it up...
And life gets to look into me
Break it down, build it up....
Taking lessons from what I see
Break it down, build it up.....
Feeling the weight on my shoulders
Break it down, build it up......
It will all be worth it when I'm older
Break it down, build it up.......
And find the one thing I never told her
Break it down, build it up........
Find my tears for a home grown soldier
Break it down, build it up.........
Life will give you your due
Break it down, build it up..........
But in the end, its just you
- James Smeaton (Sept 27th, 2005)

5) Breath Falling On My Neck
-------------------------------------------------------
Sweet breath falling on my neck
Long soft fingers remove my specks
The wrap of a hug, the feel of true love
Truly she must be sent from spaces above
The pressing of truth I do endure
To achieve a trust that is still pure
The words that sting flow from the well that heals
Truth has an empty heart but it wants to steal
Removing unhappiness with tinted lens
I attach my arms to the heart that bends
and hold my love until means justify the ends
- James Smeaton (Sept 29th, 2005)

6) Rotate
-------------------------------------------------------
Twenty five turns and I'm watchin my time
Studying and talking and reading my rhymes
I'm looking at light, adjusting my sight
Fighting and writing to see whats right

I take this journey on a star crossed path
I often sit alone and do the math
Of what it means to be a man on a planet
That keeps pushing ya down to the granite
And when I keep lifting my chin from the stone
I got to remember that there is no throne
No place to sit, and look from above
The greatest truth is in the mud
So on this day turned 26
I ask myself about all this mix
Of love and life and money and time
Is wanting a little more so much a crime
As a condition of me walking in the soil
Wanting to stop a little toil and
Settle my soul to a gentle boil
- James Smeaton (Oct 5th, 2005)

7) Run!
-------------------------------------------------------
Blazing down the field of war
Roaring to life and set to soar
Arms of metal and strength and life
Legs of steel take me near flight
Down and down the dust I go
Bodies and heads from my swords do flow
Ahead, aside, behind below a rush of blood can be so cold
Rubble and tech is laid to waste
Rubble and tech is what I taste
The pace I run down the street
The granite powdered under feet
In a million years none have seen my equal
A worse death they will not feel
When my blade finds its heart
I fear the edge will never part
With my century of wrongs on the battlefield cold
Ears to my song do seem bold
For when I hear it your time will fold
Little goods may I be sold
Furious death is what I deal
And with these arms I do Steal
Life from life and flesh from feel
Try as you try there is no appeal
From a ghost in a shell and a killers zeal
- James Smeaton, Oct 10th, 2005

8) A Diamond Is...
-------------------------------------------------------
Sparkle and dazzle with your borrowed light
Promise much love and little fight
Set to shine on a world so dark
On a base of gold and a broken heart
A long journey home you easily endure
Leaving a hand that was too pure
To hold you forever the way I will
In these fingers a life to fill
Not with your pain, or with your sorrow
but with belief in a fresh tomorrow
I see your face hardened by time
I hear my song and its little chime
Even though my surface is not as tough
Perhaps my edges are diamonds rough
And with some time and a little pressure
Maybe you'll discover this shiny treasure
- James Smeaton (Oct 13th, 2005)

9) Heart...Start...Home...Roam...Blue...You...Sand...Hand
-------------------------------------------------------
Travelled a thousand miles to be closer to my heart
Thought my hands could do the work should have known from the start
The wayward urge I let escape never found a home
Alas the actions taken have set my heart to roam
As I sit and look at the ocean blue
I can't help but hope for another you
A rock steady relationship without a grain of sand
A girl with a golden heart and a gentle hand

Take my eyes from gray and ground
Grow my love pound by pound
Make my heart hear the sound
Of a little butterfly in a little town
- James Smeaton (Nov 9th, 2005)

10) Her
-------------------------------------------------------
Steel my soul for the light I have found
She lifts my spirit up from the ground
It all started with words of truth
Months of talking worked me loose
Of a fear I held from the past
A fear that luckily did not last
For now I know I'm ready to climb
Something solid that would stand to time
Come close to me and never blind
My eyes care for my other
Someday soon to be my lover
I wonder how this tale tells
Will heart break win or will it fail
One things for sure in all this gail
My wind is right ..... its time to sail.
- James Smeaton (Nov 14th, 2005)

11) Flame Renewed
-------------------------------------------------------
Fill my soul with desire, stir my coals into a pyre
A flash, a word, a look I took, not like the one in a book
Dark nights with me you do inspire, flesh & nail and eyes of fire
Tangled bodies press and flow
It troubles my smile that you soon will go
As our hands come close to meet I get a sense of disbelieve
That one as sweet and beautiful as you
Entered my life and removed the blue
So in this sentence, this word this life
I need to remember there is a dice
And on its surface our hearts do roll
The time we spend is the toll
On a gamble called lust
Love is the goal
- James Smeaton (Nov 16th, 2005)

12) It's My Thinking Write?
-------------------------------------------------------
Open the gate to my garden green
I let you in to see what I've seen
A path leads to the golden heart
The location by which all loves starts
The garden is open and free from regard
It inspires beauty and inspires bards
So why when you walk in my garden green
That you always seem detached from the scene
From butterfly to flower to trust and power
A clock you watch for the hour
Time for me does stay still
As much as I try as much as I will
Your feelings are black like dark oil
My hope for the future you try to foil
But alas the leaves on my garden green
Are they soft and strong or in between
Time will test, and time will see
If the trail is where we be
- James Smeaton (Nov 21st, 2005)

13) Self-Diagnostic
-------------------------------------------------------
Reinventing my style might take a while
Tired of living this rank and file
The trials and triumphs etch my brain
The trials and triumphs are half pain
Life like a river I wonder how to fare it
Could it be that my choices are so apparent
When the challenge knocks do I come to the door
Or do I hide in the basement and forget distant shores
When alone in the cold wind rain
I need to remember to scrub away that stain
The one that’s deep and does not go away
The mark on my soul that’s hear to stay
Its a design so deep its starting to weight
With consideration of my life and staying ahead
With consideration of my life and my warm comfy bed
A decision is breed from this toil
Which the stain on my soul attempts to foil
The goodness I know that marks the path
Is found in a choice, and found in the math
- James Smeaton (Nov 23rd, 2005)

14) Eyes Of Honor
-------------------------------------------------------
A dancing welcome does impress
My own soul could do no less
With eight legs and smiles hidden
Its a truly a pity they won't be ridden
With golden fur and a jeweled heart
I've seen their character from the start
One of steel and one of cold
One of loyalty and one of bold
Two with love I do fold
Into my arms and out of the cold
Larger then life and true and proud
My heart humbles at the sound
Of two souls tied to my own
A purity of which I have on loan
When years pass and clocks have turned
I hope my essence will have learned
Fur is messy and far from great
But this love is forever and tied to fate
- James Smeaton (December 14th, 2005)

15) Christmas Can't Come Every Year
-------------------------------------------------------
You call to tell me your brother died
You never called to see if your son is alive
The test and strain you'll never never know
Being so close and then so low
A mold to be followed or a shoe to be filled
The time is too short for a relationship to build
Words have passed from mouth to ear
Nothing has changed, not even your fear
Of losing your boys, the ones you hold dear
So on this day with Christmas near
I hope one thing this poem made clear
It's not a day for merth and cheer.
It's rather a day when you should be here.
- James Smeaton (December 24th, 2005)

16) My Humble Orbit
-------------------------------------------------------
Entered your doors with a world of believe
Left your doors with a key to keep
Stored my big heart with a lover
Forgot those crumbs to help me uncover
Who was I underneath that bind
Was I weak or was I blind
A shiny new ride helped the answer
With a hint about pride and a hint about bantor
My outside it fell with too few swings
Due to the one I honored with my ring
But underneath the layers broken
An inner voice has loudly spoken
James your path is jagged and true
But if this life is up to you
Take your knocks and throw your blows
Life is hard and everyone knows
If it is a smile your after then look inside
Don't look for money don't look for pride
Stare your soul in the face
Quicken your boots to a motivated pace
Dig your soul into the soil
Start a business and start to toil
Cause answers they never come form above
They come from home and they come from love
So if 2006 is a challenge waiting
I see that my song is clearly stating
Bring your best and then leave your worst
My animals are strong and my love is first
- James Smeaton (December 31st, 2005)

17) Solo
-------------------------------------------------------
A soul born of a universe whole
Seems to be guided with a goal
To touch, and feel and join together
To insult and hurt forever and ever
Time does give the flow to think
But what does come from that drink
Lonely moments rendered strange
A mind so full its lost its range
Thoughts are good with a friend
Thoughts without friends do descend
A place by which only I know
A place by which only I go
Left with choice in a million directions
It hard to conduct firm inspections
Of what should be done at the moment
When my human logic has not shown it
Horizontal in time I make my stand
Not to be great, and not to be grand
But to keep with light I see in this place
And leave this world a better space
- James Smeaton (March 28th, 2006)

18) Breakfast Time
-------------------------------------------------------
Haven't found that women to call my own
My heart seems left to roam and roam
Over the hills and far away
Loves keeps running and it don't stay
Not like a post, a tree, a log
Kinda leaps like a frog
Not into my arms like that lover
But lives in the sky and likes to hover
Within my view and in my sight
Sadly untouchable cause its height
Is it wings that I do lack?
Not enough strength in my back?
To fly or float or leap or hover
My smile is wide but it don't cover
The faded eyes worn with time
Just looking for a heart to find
- James Smeaton (April 12th, 2006)

19) My Hearts Prayer
-------------------------------------------------------
As I lay my head to sleep
I ask my god what company he keeps
How is it that one day I can rise so high
While another day sees my time go by
How is it my vision becomes so clear
When strong love is no where near
How is it I long for little fear
But tear for tear my heart drives me there
A place I know to call my home
A place where one should rest his bones
But rested bones does a heart not care
As long as love can be found laying there
So as I pray to the lord for my soul to keep
I hand him my heart and tell him not to weep
My heart cannot stay in your godly place
It lives with my eyes, my ears and my face
What my heart wants is a hidden grace
Which cannot be found at your heavenly pace
So if I die before I awake
Please leave my heart for gods sake
The cracks and rips are mine to own
There not like my soul which is on loan
My heart was born onto this earth
It began its mission since my birth
To test the waters of shores unknown
To sit, to walk, to roam and roam
So lord if my heart looks soon to break
I pray for the lord my soul to take
But leave my heart and leave its power
It has its purpose in this humans hour
A compass set to an unknown direction
Where it points is my discretion?
- James Smeaton (July 8th, 2006)

20) Rainbow Girl
-------------------------------------------------------
Fetchin eyes do disguise
A gentle mind that is so wise
Colors split and sized and sealed
Tinted to show a different feel
Serious and sober under the cover
Yet mystery and charm float above her
Is there a key to this lock
Something with tick, and something with tock
In the event of no such thought
I must leave with a question naught
At rainbow's end there is to be gold
A heart so sweet it may never be sold
So in those shades of wonderful light
Does a stranger find cause for a fight
For talent slipped through fingers thin
and words gone soft that lost there ring
- James Smeaton (Oct 18th, 2007)

21) The Long Fire
-------------------------------------------------------
Falling down the path again
I find myself holding a pen
Writing to write a mind gone wrong
Fighting the list that is so long
Change I have in small amounts
But it falls through my pockets with little account
Attempting a course that seemed so true
Find me lost with little clues
Is it my role to envision a path
Has my planning been to brash
Life has mystery yet to unfold
But do I write the tale told
A question hangs in those flames
Believe in fate or believe in games
How does one keep a course
With much love and so little force
- James Smeaton (June 5th, 2008)

22) Bernie My Friend
-------------------------------------------------------
I would like to send
A message of mirth and happiness and glee
For in you I have found a friend times three
Always funny, clever and bold
You told stories that never got old
In a child's mind we both met
In our time together I have no regret
For with a book, a pencil and pen
We wrote the formula that shall not end
To ride on our bikes and speak the truth
To look at the world and find some root
Of what makes a man great and what steps he can take
To shares ones view for humors sake
Distance has cast our time asunder
But that will not stop this poem of blunder
From telling you what I know to be true
Life can be hard and sad and blue
But with a friend who is as true
Any dark cloud can find its clue
To look up above, not down below
Time is precious and never slow
So on that note of a clock
I will bring to conclusion my little thoughts
Bernie you are unique, and bright and gay
And on this special wedding day
Hear my words and hold them dear
Life is short and I wish I could be there!
- James Smeaton (August 23r, 2008)
